20 things we would love to change about NDIS

We asked our parent/carers in the The Carer Collective - NDIS Resource Community for Parent Carers group If you could wave a magic wand and change ONE thing about the NDIS, what would it be?” Read all their ideas below…

If you could wave a magic wand and change ONE thing about the NDIS, what would it be?”

  1. Wait times.

  2. The 2 weeks’ notice you need to provide to a provider as your child is unwell the day before their appointment.

  3. Less reports, more support.

  4. Consistency with planners.

  5. The lack of human understanding. You don’t speak to the same person twice, you don’t have the ability to ring or email the same person back.

  6. A caring case manager to help in providing all needed support. Stop the complexities and constant assessments.

  7. All assessments and reports needed to access NDIS be funded by them.

  8. NDIS to have funds aside for those struggling to pay full amount for diagnosis assessment.

  9. Consistency.

  10. Accountability.

  11. To actually have planners / LACs and staff within the NDIS that have knowledge about disabilities and what their needs actually are.

  12. Choice.

  13. Quicker action.

  14. All families can access respite and cleaning/gardening services to help ease the load on parents/carers.

  15. Mental health social workers.

  16. Provide careers with supports to maintain their ability to care for NDIS participants long term.

  17. More advocacy to help people get what they need and understand the rules.

  18. An App that listed all service providers.

  19. The ability to use therapy funds for a support worker instead.

  20. A book including all support networks available.
